Hebrew Matthew Jesus Genealogy

Within the last couple of years or so I learned from Nehemia Gordon that he has discovered several more manuscripts of Matthew's Gospel in Hebrew, and among them, two have "Jacob begot Joseph the Father of Mary of whom was born Jesus."

This confirms for me what I had learned from the Aramaic Peshitta and from those who have studied it. In those versions the word was an Aramaic word that means "male guardian" which could mean 'husband' or 'father' or some other 'responsible male' to care for someone. I also remember hearing at that time years ago, that this Aramaic word was found in a non-Biblical document of the time where the context made it clear that this word referred to a father.

At that time, I wrote a 'paper' on the subject showing how this variation, when understood to be correct, cleared up multiple problems in the genealogy of Jesus in Matthew and Luke. I am thinking I should update it to cover the Hebrew Matthew evidence directly, but for now you can read it here.
